Abstract

840,631. Lubricant nipples. ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS. April 1, 1957, No. 10578/57. Class 12 (3). [Also in Group XXIX] A non-return valve through which e.g. lubricant can be forced into a lubricating system, comprises a plastic, e.g. nylon, valve body 10, Fig. 2, having a tapered-threaded portion 16 sealingly securing it in an aperture 18 of the part to be lubricated, and a pair of axially depending arms 32 integral with the body carrying an integral ring 38 through which a loose metal ball 14 is initially forced. The ball 14 normally contacts a seat 30 at the inner end of a passageway 28 and is urged away therefrom when lubricant is forced into the passageway so that lubricant flows between the arms and out through a port 22. In a modification, the ring 38 is replaced by an imperforate base part 38a, Fig. 4, formed with a hemispherical portion 14a in place of the ball 14. In this case the arms 34a are unstressed when the position 14a is unseated, back pressure in the system urging the portion 14a against its seat 30a to close the valve.
