Abstract

831,636. Systems of storage. SANDERS, L. D. March 7, 1958 [March 21, 1957], No 7508/58. Class 20(1) [Also in Group XXX] Vehicles or other articles are moved to and from storage spaces 4 (Fig. 1) in a multi-storey storage system by a lift platform 5 carrying a moving carriage 9 provided with means 26 for transferring articles laterally to and from it. In the. garage illustrated the carriage 9 can carry two vehicles spaced by a control booth 115 for an operator controlling the motions of the carriage and of the transfer devices. The carriage 9 is propelled along rails 11 on the lift platform by cables passing to a drum 19 driven by an hydraulic motor. Each transfer device 26 comprises a trolley 28 carrying a platform which can be jacked up to support a vehicle and running on rollers on the carriage 9. The mechanism for moving the trolley 28 includes a slide 68 guided on the carriage 9 and moved laterally by cables 76, 78 (Fig. 8) passing over pulleys 80, 82 to a winding drum 84. Cables 86, 92 controlling the movement of the trolley 28 relatively to the slide 68 pass over pulleys 88, 94 on the slide 68 and over pulleys 90, 96 to a further winding drum 98 driven through gearing 102, 100, 104 from the drum 84 so that the movement of the trolley 28 is less than twice that of the slide 68. A flexible conduit 66 providing hydraulic fluid for operating the jacks on the trolley 28 passes over further pulleys 110, 112 to the drum 98.
