Abstract

1,099,554. Mechanical storage systems. R. GEISEL, and W. LINGG, [trading as RUDOLF GEISEL MASCHINENFABRIK]. April 15, 1965 [April 20, 1964], No. 16240/65. Heading B8E. A storage assembly comprises blocks 2, 3, Figs. 1, 2, 3, of shelf-racks, e.g. 2a . . . 2h, and conveyer means 13, 14 for moving the shelfracks into carriages 4, 5 disposed on opposite sides of the blocks and adapted to transfer the shelf-racks between the blocks. Each carriage is suspended from elevated rails 15 and has wheels 6a . . . 6d for running along the latter. The carriage 5 has a rail 8 movably carrying a hoist 7a having an operator's cabin 7b, the hoist being movable vertically and horizontally to service a shelf-rack such as 2i carried by the carriage 5. Each shelf-rack is movably supported by rollers 9, 10 on rails 16 so as to be moved on to rails 16a, 16b of the carriages by the conveyer means 13, 14. Further conveyer means 11, 12 are provided above the blocks 2, 3 for moving each block as a unit; the conveyer means 11, 12 may comprise chains or push rods having pawls arranged to engage the shelfracks. The blocks 2, 3 and the carriages 4, 5 may be mounted on rails at floor level.
