Class 44 A toggle fastener, e.g. for aircraft cowlings, has a link 18, pivoted at 17 to a sliding shoe 11 on the primary part 1 of the fastener, which carries a locking lever 19 having a bifurcated end with part circular recesses 23 to engage arcuate fulcrum members 24 on the secondary part 2 of the fastener to draw the parts 1 and 2 together; a pin 29 on part 2 arrests the closing movement of the lever 19. The shoe 11 has a screwthreaded stem 12 extending through a wall 13 of the primary part 1 and through a captive nut 14 in an aperture 15 of the part 1, to adjust the link pivot 17 relative to the fulcrum members 24. The locking lever 19 is held in the locked position by a latch lever 25 pivoted at 27 to the part 2 and urged by spring 26 to secure the lever 19; pressure on the face of the latch lever 25 pivots it against the spring to a position to release the lever 19, an element 28 on lever 25 urges the lever 19 from its locking position. A guideway 30 in part 2, aligns with a guideway 16 in part 1 in the fastened position and houses a bolt 31 connected by a pin 38 to a bell-crank lever 33. The locking lever 19 on moving to its locking position engages an arm 39 of the bell-crank 33 to pivot it about 34 to shoot the bolt 31 partly into guideway 16, against the action of spring 32, to support the fastener against the action of shear stresses. In the locked position, the arm 39 passes between a pin 41, carried by lugs 40 on lever 19, and the lever 19 so that on raising lever 19 the pin 41 engages the arm 39 to pivot the bell-crank 33 to withdraw the bolt 31.
