Abstract

795,952. Hooks; hook fastenings. SMITH. W. H., and DAVIES, C. W. Feb. 8, 1955 [Feb. 15, 1954], No. 4438/54. Classes 44 and 89(2) A hook - fastening comprises a body 1 with a fixing stirrup 18 and slots 4 receiving a pin 3 carried by a part 2 slidable in the body and urged upwardly therein by springs 5. A hook 6 is pivoted at 7 to part 2 and held closed by a pawl 9 pivoted at 8 and loaded by a spring 15 acting through a catch 13 pivoted at 14 to the pawl A foot 16 on the pawl engages an abutment 17 to maintain the hook in closed position. Part 2 may be retained in its raised-position by a pin 19 which shears when a predetermined load is reached, to allow part 2 to move against springs 5. A latch 20, pivoted at 21 to the body, is now pulled by a spring 22 to a position in which it is engaged by catch 13 and then by pawl 9, whereupon part 2 moves into the body when the load is reduced, thus causing the pawl to release the hook, which moves to open-position.
