Abstract
868,586. Dropping from a height. AEROQUIP CORPORATION. Jan. 2, 1959 (April 7, 1958], No. 1101/59. Class 9(2). [Also in Group XXV]. A hook comprises a body 1 for suspension on a cable of e.g. a parachute, a hook member 4 pivoted at 2 to the body, a trigger 5 also pivoted at 2, a latch 12 pivoted off-centre adjacent the free end of member 4 for engagement with a surface 15 on the body to hold the hook member closed, and a locking bar 161 pivoted to the body at 16 and held by a tail 6 on the trigger 5 against the latch 12. The member and trigger are urged apart by a spring 8 and relative movement is limited by a stop 11. The hook is held in its latched position, before a load is supported, by a lever 22. When the load is supported, e.g. after ejection from an aircraft, the trigger is depressed and lever 22 moved anticlockwise by torsion spring 24. When the load becomes supported on the ground, the trigger pivots anticlockwise releasing bar 16 which is pivoted away from latch 12 by a spring 20. The latch then pivots to release the hook member.
