An internal door 15, Fig. 5, preventing material in a container reaching a bottom opening which may be closed by a sliding door 5 initially moves away from the material as it opens. As illustrated the door 15 is mounted within the skip of a skip hoist and is opened by a connection to the usual sliding gate 5, but the door 15 may be operated independently of the gate 5 or the gate 5 may be omitted and the door 15 operated from a vertically sliding carriage replacing the gate 5. As illustrated the upper end of the gate 15 is carried in guides 30 while its lower end is connected by links 12, which are normally horizontal as illustrated to provide a locking action, to the gate 5. In an alternative construction (Fig. 8, not shown) the guides 20 are replaced by guides carried by the gate 5. The gate 15 may alternatively be connected at its upper end by links 13 to the gate 5 as shown in Fig. 1 so that when the gate 5 is closed the lower edge of the door 15 rests against it. In a further construction (Fig. 3, not shown) the door 15 is hinged at its upper end to the skip while its lower end is connected by links to the gate 5 so that the door 15 is swung upwardly as the gate is raised. The door 15 may terminate short of the bottom of the skip so that some of the material passes below it to be retained by the gate 5. The gate 5 may be operated as described in Specification 731,941 which is referred to.
