Abstract

817,113. Flexible ducting. MINING ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Jan. 16, 1958 [Dec. 24, 1956], No. 39185/56. Class 99(2). Flexible air ducting formed from polyvinyl chloride or like plastic sheet material 10, has a longitudinal seam formed by bringing the longitudinal edges 11, 12 of a strip of the material together over a substantial width to form a radially projecting suspension flange, reinforcing the flange with a strip 13 of fabric impregnated with plastic and welding the edges of the material and the fabric together over the whole of their area or over spaced longitudinal bands, As shown. the three layers are welded together along spaced bands 14, 15. One edge of the plastic strip may be extended and folded over the other so that there are four layers in the flange. Alterntively the plastic impregnated fabric strip may be folded over the projecting edges of the tube material. The welding may be effected by a high frequency electric welder. The reinforcing fabric strip may be woven from natural fibres or high strength synthetic fibres.
