Abstract
The ends of the flattened tube that is to form the plastic bag are first turned outwards, forming flanges at the sides connected by turned-under triangular pieces at the ends. A separate piece of plastic is laid across the flanges, overlapping them on both sides, and is welded to them and to the triangular pieces. The overhanging sides of the added piece are now folded over, near the weld line, to overlap each other, and are welded together, pref. at an off-centre position. Compared to the previous method, in which the bottom of the bag was formed entirely by folding the tube, without the addition of a separate piece, the present method saves material.
