Class 93 Articles are coated with flock by coating them with an adhesive, placing them in a flock-application chamber and producing a cloud of flock in the said chamber whilst the articles are therein by passing into said chamber air which has previously passed through a container in which flock is maintained in a state of agitation. As shown, a flock container 19 fitted with internal vanes 22 is connected by conduit 23 to one side of an applying chamber 10. Further conduits 26 and 27 lead from the further side and the bottom respectively of chamber 10 to neck-separating units 33 fitted with fans 31. In operation, a batch of articles 17 previously coated with adhesive is moved by conveyer chain 18 into chamber 10 and the sliding doors 11 then closed. Fans 31 are started so as to draw a of air through container 19 and chamber 10. Container 19 is rotated by rollers 21 so as to agitate the flock therein. A further fan 25 is provided at the point where the flock conduit enters the chamber 10 to assist in dispersing the flock into an evenly-distributed cloud. The rotary container may be replaced by a casing divided into upper and lower parts by a vibrated screen; flock is supplied to the upper part, passes through the screen and is entrained in a current of air passing through the lower part. Electric motors operating the chain 18, the drum 19, the doors 11 and the fans 25 and 31 may be controlled by manually operated switches, or automatically in a predetermined sequence.
