Abstract

745,541. Coating fabrics successively with adhesive and pulverulent material. SOC. FRANCAISE DES PAPIERS PEINTS. March 12, 1953 [Sept. 26, 1952; Feb. 13, 1953], No. 6865/53. Class 140. [Also in Groups XV and XVI] Relief wall-papers are produced by first printing a relief ink-impression and then distributing pulverulent material uniformly on to the printed surface while the ink is still moist, the distribution being effected by blowing a stream of air conveying the material above the moving paper; the excess material is subsequently removed. The pulverulent material may be bronze or other metallic powder, mother-of-pearl, cotton, or wood, and may be in the form of powder, flakes or small rods. The design is produced with an adhesive substance in relief and of varying depth in a printing- machine, and the pulverulent material adheres to it in greatest concentration at the deepest parts and not at all in the non-design areas. The paper is passed from a printing-machine through a distributing box 2, Fig. 1, having an input compartment 5 and a distribution compartment 6, and through a drying apparatus 34 to a windup means. Bronze powder is contained in a hopper 10 having a needle valve 11 raised by an electromagnet 12 by an amount adjustable by a screw-operated means 13. The powder, including any that has leaked into compartment 5, is sucked into a blowing-machine 8, and blown out through an elongated nozzle 18 having an output-controlling adjustable flap 19. on to the whole width of the paper as it passes through the compartment 6. A helical powder-dispersing deflector 17, and a vibrator 15a to prevent powder depositing on the walls of the nozzle are provided-also a powder-diluting auxiliary air intake 20. Surplus powder is sucked away through a hood 21 by a suction fan 23 and collected in a bag 24. Remaining excess powder is removed by a rotating brush 32 and also delivered to the bag, the powder being removed from the brush by a scraper 33.
