Abstract
683,361. Coating wires &c. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Feb. 19, 1951. [March 9, 1950] No. 3921/51. Class 140. [Also in Group XXXVI] An apparatus for impregnating a fibrous core 50 with carbonaceous material comprises a tank T1 containing a carbonaceous suspension together with a binder and a wetting agent, and an oven O in which the material absorbed by the core is baked, pulleys being provided in the tank and the oven for directing the core through the tank a number of times, each pass through the tank being followed by at least one pass throug the oven, and motor driven capstans being provided for engagement by the core before each pass into the tank. The core 50 is led through the tank T1 and oven O as shown. and after the impregnating process it is passed through tank T2 containing a coating solution of latex, wipers, 71, 74 being provided to remove surplus solution before the coated core passes into the oven. The speed of the various capstans is adjusted so that the core 50 is kept taut without being stretched.
