Abstract
815,667. Wrenches. VARNEY Ltd., E. R. Jan. 31, 1958 [Jan. 17, 1957], No. 1744/57. Class 61. In a wrench comprising a handle member 10 carrying a fixed jaw 11, a movable jaw 12 pivoted to the handle member at 14, an operating lever 17 pivoted at 18 to the movable jaw 12 and a toggle arm 27, the toggle arm is pivoted to the operating lever 17 at 30, the bent end 28 of the toggle arm being pivoted at 29 to a slider 24 which engages an adjustable abutment screw 26 threading in the end of the handle 10 and a release lever 34 is provided. The slider 24 is in the form of a short piston and fits the cross section of a cavity 23 within the handle member. The release lever 34 is pivoted at 37 to the toggle link 27, has a long arm which extends between the handles and a short arm 38 which engages the inside edge 39 of the operating lever 17. The jaws are urged apart by a spring 32 and a spring 42 urges the release lever towards the operating lever 17. The jaws 11, 12 have serrated surfaces and are firmly backed by the stiff U-sections of the members 10, 13 into which they fit and are secured as by riveting.
