Abstract
814,546. Ladders. RAMSEY & SONS (FORFAR) Ltd. Sept. 4, 1957 [June 13, 1956], No. 18276/56. Class 20(2) [Also in Group XXX] An extensible ladder has the stiles of the upper and lower sections (15 and 10 respectively) provided with fitting channels 18, 14 within which is a member 19 supporting a hoist 20, 21 connected to a cable which passes over a pulley at the upper end of the upper section and is wound on a drum at the foot of the lower section. (Fig. 2, not shown, illustrates the arrangement of the cable.) The channels 18, 14 may be lined with or formed of aluminium. The member 19 may consist of a spring-loaded rod 30 housing two spindles 31 carrying ball heads 29 which take up the difference between the channels 18, 14 as the platform 21 ascends from the lower to the upper section. To extend the ladder the cable is detached from the hoist 20, passed over a pulley on the top rung of the lower section and attached to an eye on the foot rung of the lower section which may be reinforced by a metal sleeve and screwed end plates (Fig. 2, not shown).
