Abstract
813,576. Cigarette-making machines. MOLINS, D. W., and MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. Dec. 28, 1956 [Dec. 29, 1955], No. 37256/55. Class 130. To produce dense-end cigarettes in a continuous-rod machine, increments are added to a tobacco stream 2 on a cigarette-paper web 1 by a conveyer drum 3 having a peripheral speed equal to the stream speed and between the operative surface of which and a hopper wall 7 tobacco accumulates until removed by suction ports 4. Another hopper wall 8 regulates the height of each increment, removal of which from the drum 3 is effected when the corresponding ports 4 pass from coaction with the suction chamber 5, optionally into coaction with an air pressure chamber 6. The ports 4, of which there may be one or more sets, are covered by strips 9, or a continuous drum sleeve, of nylon fabric. The hopper may be fed with tobacco diverted via a shaking conveyer from a shower forming the stream 2.
