Abstract

N1 - Acetyl - N1 - (3 : 4 - dimethyl - 5 - isoxazolyl)-sulphanilamide is made by acetylating an alkali-metal salt of 3 : 4-dimethyl-5-sulphanilamido-isoxazole dissolved in a dissolving or dispersing agent such as an ether of an alcohol or glycol, e.g. ethyl ether, ethylene glycol diethyl ether, dioxan, an ester such as ethyl acetate or ethyl benzoate or a tertiary base such as pyridine or quinoline. Examples describe the acetylation of the sodium salt of 3 : 4 - dimethyl - 5 - sulphanilamido - isoxazole with (1) acetyl chloride in ethyl acetate, and (2) acetic anhydride in dioxan to give the N1-acetyl derivative. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 753,716.
