Abstract
The invention comprises 17-carboxylic acid esters of 14(a )-hydroxytestosterone or 14(a )-hydroxy - 10 - normethyltestosterone and the preparation thereof by treating 14(a )-hydroxytesterone or 14(a ) - hydroxy - 10 - normethyl testosterone with an acylating agent, e.g. an acid, acid anhydride or acid halide. The reaction may be effected in a solvent such as pyridine, benzene, toluene or ether from 0 DEG C. to the b.p. of the reaction mixture. Examples disclose the use of acetic anhydride, formic acid, propionic anhydride and b -cyclopentylpropionyl chloride and benzoyl chloride as acylating agents. Other esters of aliphatic and carbocyclic acids containing up to eight carbon atoms may be produced. Specification 734,797 is referred to.ALSO:An absorption base useful in pharmacy and cosmetology comprises petrolatum stearyl alcohol, and a 17-carboxylic ester of 14(a )-hydroxy-testosterone or 14(a )-hydroxy-10-normethyl-testosterone, e.g. 14(a )-hydroxytesterone-17-acetate. Specification 734,797, [Group IV (b)], is referred to.
