Abstract

The invention comprises a p 14(a )-hydroxy-11-desoxycorticosterone 21-ester of an aliphatic or carbocyclic carboxylic acid and its preparation by reacting a 14(a )-hydroxy-corticosterone with an acylating agent, e.g. an aliphatic or carbocyclic carboxylic acid, an acid anhydride or an acid chloride. Examples describe the use of acetic, dimethylacetic or trimethylacetic acid anhydride, or benzoyl or b -cyclopentylpropionyl chloride as acylating agents, and other carboxylic acids containing up to eight carbon atoms are mentioned. Specification 737,122 is referred to.ALSO:An absorption base useful in pharmacy and cosmetology comprises petrolatum, stearyl alcohol and a 14a -hydroxy-11-desoxycorticosterone-21-ester, e.g. the acetate. Specification 737,122, [Group IV (b)], is referred to.
