Abstract
810,296. Mine roof supports. GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE STERKRADE A.G. June 23, 1955 [June 28, 1954], No. 18170/55. Class 20(2) A jointed mine-roof support frame capable of step-by-step advancement comprises frame members jointed to form a plane figure comprising top and bottom members 4, 5, Fig. 8 connected by inclined struts, one strut 2 being inclined at a symetrically opposite angle to a strut or to a pair of parallel struts 1, 3 and being pivoted at the top and slidable at the bottom in the longitudinal direction of the bottom member 5 by means of a fluid pressure device 8 and having a floor engaging non-return locking member 10 whereby longitudinal reciprocation of the bottom end of the member 2 imparts a stepping movement to the frame. In Fig. 8 the support frame consists of top and bottom longitudinal members 4 and 5 interconnected by inclined struts 1 and 3 pivoted thereto and by an oppositely symetrically inclined stepping strut 2 pivoted to the member 4 and slidably guided along the member 5 but directly supported on the floor by a slide 7 which is provided with a floor engaging non-return locking member 10. A cylinder 8 integral with the member 5 contains a double acting piston 9 connected to the slide 7. Introduction of pressure fluid on the left of the piston causes the slide 7 to advance over the floor and the entire frame to be lowered as in Fig. 9. Introduction of pressure fluid on the right of the piston 9 causes the entire frame to be advanced and erected against reaction of the lock 10 engaging the floor. The strut 1, which comprises telescopically engaging parts 13, and 14 and two springs 15 and 16, is automatically adjustable in length to enable the frame to adapt itself to the inclination of the roof. To lock the frame in a supporting position only one joint need be locked, as shown by a plug and socket connection 11, or by a clamp or frictional connection. A frictional connection allows yielding of the fragme under roof pressure. When the frame is locked by rigid locking means yieldability may be obtained by means of resilient wood pads, 12, Fig. 8, or by making a frame member variable in length. In a modification, the strut 1 is dispensed with.
