A messenger wire 12 is wrapped in a helical path about the whole length of a conductor 10 which may be enclosed in a sheath 11. The wire 12 is preferably of steel and applied with a lay more than 15 times the diameter of the cable. The wire 12 is clamped to a bracket 14 on pole 13, and the cable may be seated in the bracket or hang from it.
