Abstract
807,790. Vehicle wheels. KLOCKNERGEORGSMARIENWERKE A.G. Oct. 18, 1955 [Nov. 2, 1954], No. 29761/55. Addition to 746,197. Class 144 (1). In a light-weight railway wheel as described in the parent Specification, the tyre band 11, instead of being welded to the rim portions 7, 8 of the wheel discs 5, 6, is locked in position on the rim portions by a ring 25, on one (8) of the rim portions, which is shaped to interengage with surfaces on the tyre band and to lock therewith on shrinking of the tyre band. As shown, the ring 25 is shaped on its inner periphery to abut the curved shoulder 121 of the disc 6, and has a radially outwardly projecting collar 27 on its outer periphery. With the tyre band assembled over the rim portions 7, 8, in a heatexpanded condition, the ring 25 is pressed into an undercut recess provided in inner peripheral edge of the tyre to cause the collar 27 to snap behind the radially inwardly projecting lip 26 of the recess. Subsequent contraction of the tyre locks the assembly tightly together. To facilitate assembly of the ring 25 in the tyre recess, the collar 27 has a conical lead portion 28 which, on assembly, abuts a complementary surface in the tyre recess.
