Abstract
805,442. Aircraft flaps. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd. Sept. 28, 1955 [Sept. 30, 1954], No. 28275/54. Class 4. A two-part flap for aircraft comprises a front section 2 having forwardly extending arms 7 provided with rollers 8 which run in arcuate tracks 9 in the wing, and rearwardly extending arms 13 which have pivotal connections 14 with arms 12 on a rear section 3. The front section 2 has other connections 5 to links 4 which are pivotally connected to fixed arms 6 extending from the upper trailing edge of the wing 1. The arms 12 of section 3 have other connections 17 with links 15 attached at 16 to the wing 1 and a jack 11, enclosed within the wing is connected to the pins 8. When the jack is retracted the pin 8 is at the lower end of slot 9 and the flaps nest together and within the wing trailing edge to provide an uninterrupted wing contour. Extension of the jack moves the flap sections to the relative positions shown. The section 2 has an air nozzle 10 extending along its length to increase lift.
