Abstract
559,546. Controlling aircraft. PHILLIPS & POWIS AIRCRAFT, Ltd., MILES, G. H., and BOURNON, R. N. May 18, 1942, No. 6733. [Class 4] A flap 5A normally nested in a cavity at the trailing edge of the wing to complete the wing contour, is supported by frames 14 pivoted at 15, one within an outboard engine nacelle and another within the fuselage and movable by a jack 9A, or where the flap extends right across the fuselage the frames 14 may be enclosed in nacelles to each side of the fuselage. According to the Provisional Specification the flap may have laterally spaced brackets at its leading edge carrying rollers which run in curved guide slots on the wing, a jack connected to a rod guided between rollers acting upon the flap at a point to the rear of the leading edge. A flap having such rollers a guide slot at each end ,a triangular structure pivotally mounted at an intermediate point and movable by means enclosed in a nacelle also is described.
