Abstract
794,259. Heat exchangers. ASSOCIATED BRITISH COMBUSTION, Ltd. Nov. 17, 1955 [Sept. 6, 1954], No. 25798/54. Class 64(3) In an apparatus for heating fuel oil which comprises a plurality of vertical heating tubes 9 each having external longitudinal fins 9a and being embraced by a sleeve 10, the tubes being disposed within a housing 1 having an inlet 6 for oil to be heated, a steam pipe 13 extends within each tube, steam being discharged from the steam pipes into the upper ends of the tubes 9 and flowing thence downwardly towards a condensate collecting chamber 15. Fuel oil passes from the inlet port 6 upwardly outside the elements and is then heated in flowing downwardly through passages 11 (Fig. 2) formed between adjacent fins 9a of the tubes. The heated oil flows to a chamber 7 from which it is discharged through a port 8. Each tube 9 may be formed with one or more circumferential grooves 17 along its length to interrupt the continuity of the pasages 11 and hence retard the downward flow of oil.
