A cover disc 15, 18 is secured to a wheel 12 by means of a thin-walled cylindrical metal shell 10 to the closed outboard end of which the cover disc is detachably secured, the open inboard end of the shell being engaged resiliently in the wheel aperture and splayed outwardly to form an arcuate-sectioned flange 101 which is disposed between the wheel disc 12 and the hub 11 and is resiliently stressed on securing the wheel 12 to the hub 11 by the nuts 23 so that the shell is gripped by the wheel aperture. As shown, the splayed open end 101 of the shell has a series of circumferentially spaced slits 102 to enhance its resilience, and the closed end has an axial hole in and around which a nut 13 is welded for engagement by a bolt 14 carried by the cover disc. The cover disc comprises a central cap section 15 the outer periphery 156 of which is flanged to engage rotatably, through the medium of a washer 21, in the dished inner periphery of an annular section 18 which covers the remainder of the wheel body 12 and the rim 122. The annular section 18 is provided with an intermediate stepped portion 183, which locates on rubber sleeves 19 provided on the pegs 123 normally provided on the wheel 12 for snap-on hub caps, and is shaped at its outer periphery to lie spaced from the wheel rim. Where the pegs 123 are not provided, rubber blocks may be spacedly secured to the cover periphery to abut the rim. Openings or louvres 182 may be provided or simulated in the section 18. The central cap section 15 shown comprises an inboard or backing portion 151 to which the bolt 14, carrying a soft washer 25, is attached, and an outboard or front masking portion 152 secured to the inboard portion by nuts 16 engaged an bolts extending through both portions from a name plate 17. The two portions are provided with interfitting diametrically opposed sets of ears or lugs 155, 154 which provide for manual rotation of the section 15 relative to the annulus 18 to screw bolt 14 into its nut 13. In an alternative arrangement, the outer end of the shell 10 may be externally screw threaded for engagement by a correspondingly tapped portion of the cap 15.
