Abstract

793,368. Knitting-machines. MELLOW BROMLEY & CO., Ltd. Dec. 22, 1955 [Jan. 3, 1955], No. 135/55. Class 74 (2). Each trick of a needle bed of a knitting- machine is lined by a channel-shaped member 5 which accommodates the needle, Fig. 4, or alternatively a number of channel-shaped members may be soldered together in groups and secured to a plain base to form the needle bed, Fig. 8. The member 5 which is folded up from a metal blank is widened at its outer end to form a verge bit VB and has its outer edge slightly undercut so that it is rearwardly inclined. Where the member is accommodated in a trick 2 in a bed, the outer widened end may engage beneath projections 1b formed in the bed in order to position it. The rear end of each member is recessed to provide butts 6 which are secured by a plate 11 secured to the bed. Alternatively the members may be adjustably secured in position to move the verge bits VB into or out of the tricked bed when desired to compensate for the any variation in the yarn being knitted. For this purpose cams may engage the butts 6 to move the members.
