Abstract

1,117,784. Knitting-machines. WILLIAM COTTON Ltd. 19 Aug., 1965 [21 Aug., 1964], No. 34366/64. Heading D1C. A straight-bar machine has needle selecting mechanism comprising a series of sliders 51, 52, Figs. 1 and 3, which are selected by electromagnets 49, see also Fig. 6, operated from an electrical programme device. The sliders are adapted to engage the butts 1a of the corresponding needles when the needles are in their lowered position and prevent them being raised so that they fail to take yarn. Alternatively the electromagnets may actuate sliders controlling needle pressing elements 17 such that selected needles press or fail to press to enable tuck work to be produced.
