Abstract

1,270,880. Knitting - machines. S T I B B E MACHINERY Ltd. 12 Oct., 1970 [4 Nov., 1969], No. 53922/69. Heading D1C. Needle jacks 13 of a circular or flat machine are deflected to move a butt 13b from a cam track by a pulsed moving coil selector 21 acting on the jack presser 14. The jack is sprung and its lower end 13a clamped so that the butt 13b is normally in the track 23. The upper end 14b of the presser is normally retained by magnet 35 when the lower ends are forced inwards prior to each reselection by cam 38. Thus the butt 14b2 rides up rise cam 33 taking butt 14b1 above the radially deflecting portion. The jack is therefor unselected, rides up cam 28, and possibly 29, and the corresponding needle is raised to the influence of pivoted cam 27. When the selector is actuated a ram strikes the presser which pivots at 14a so that the lower end is held by magnet 36, and butt 14b2 removed from the cam track. Butt 14b1 is therefor pushed in by cam 33, thereby flexing the upper end of the jack and withdrawing butt 13b from track 23. The jack and needle are not raised. In modifications a sprung or unspurung jack has an operating butt at its lower end. The selector is either pulled so that the ram strikes an aligned jack, or if the ram has a cam face, when the jack is riding up the face. A manually adjustable cam presses all the jack so that their butts are forced out of the track.
