Abstract

789,351. Pistons. VALERO, R. S. Jan. 31, 1956 [March 11, 1955], No. 3095/56. Class 122 (1). A flexible packing for the face of the main piston of an hydraulic brake comprises a washer A of rubber or similar material, a metal socket B fitting the adjacent face of the washer and of slightly smaller diameter than the washer, and a metal retaining member C which is a press-fit on the central spigot 7 of the socket B. The member C has a circular head 8 of a size and shape suitable for supporting the piston return spring, thus protecting the washer A from damage by direct pressure. The rim of the socket B has perforations 6 to allow fluid to pass from an annular channel 5 to the opposite face during the return stroke.
