726,439. Pistons. STRAUS, M. Feb. 12, 1953 [Feb. 13, 1952], No. 4018/53. Classes 122 (1) and 122 (5). [Also in Group XXXIV] In an hydraulically or pneumatically operated disc brake, the brake discs 3, 4 are normally applied by fluid pressure means so that the fluid enters the pressure chamber formed between shoulders 12 and 14, formed in sleeve 9 and sleeve 10 respectively, and is forced through bores 17 and 18 into annular grooves 11 and 13 which carry packing rings 16. The rings are therefore urged by the pressure obtaining in the pressure chamber against the cylinder surface which is to be sealed and the brake discs 3 and 4 are expanded. Specification 700,970 is referred to.
