Abstract

780,185. Thermally-actuated valves. MAYES, A. J. Dec. 29, 1954 [Sept. 29, 1953], No. 26674/53. Class 135. A temperature-responsive control means for controlling the supply of gas to a heater, e.g. a brooder or a piglet warmer, comprises a thermostatic capsule 23 bearing on an axially movable actuating rod 8 to close a spring- loaded lift valve 7 against the action of a spring 18 located in an upstanding gas inlet 3 whereon the valve seat is formed. The valve 7 is supported in a casing 1 by a rubber or like diaphragm 11 clamped between the casing and a cover 19. The diaphragm which has a horizontal margin 13 and a cupped portion 12 is clamped centrally between the flat top of the valve disc 7 and a washer 10. A rubber or like sealing washer 17 is clamped below the valve disc and engages the top of the gas inlet 3. The cover 19 is secured by screw pins 15 and is centrally bored to pass the rod 8. An adjustable screw 25 controls a gas by-pass.
