Abstract
776,337. Air filters. FILTERWERK MANN & HUMMEL GES. Oct. 24, 1955 [March 10, 1955], No. 30270/55. Class 8(2) In an air filter of the oil-bath type comprising an annular filter cartridge 1 forming with the surrounding wall 9 of the oil sump an air inlet passage and having a cover 10 spaced about it from which depends a clean air outlet duct 6, the sump wall 9 extends upwardly at 19, 21 above the cover 10 and surrounds a preliminary filter cartridge 24 and has a cover 27 provided with air inlet apertures 26; the preliminary cartridge 24 serving to arrest oil blown through the cartridge 1 by a reverse flow of air, e.g. from a compressor connected to the clean air outlet duct 6. The cartridge 24 is of conical disc form thus allowing arrested oil to drip back to the sump. In a modification the sump casing wall 9 extends vertically at 30 instead of inwardly and has a single side inlet for dust-laden air.
