Abstract
770,880. Travelling-wave tubes. SPERRY CORPORATION. April 13, 1955 [May 4, 1954], No. 10638/55. Class 39(1). [Also in Group XL(b)] The input and output coaxial lines 48, 70 of a travelling-wave tube extend parallel to the helix 44, and are coupled to the ends of the helix through strip-aboveground transmission lines 64, 58, Fig. 3, matched to the coaxial lines. Matched coupling to the helix is achieved by horn members 32, 38 and helical strips 54, 76 as described in Specification 770,881. Strip 64 connects inner conductor 52 of input line 48 with helical strip 54, and plate 58 connects the horn member 32 with the outer conductor 50. Annular discs 90, 92 provide shielding between the ends of the helix. The horn members 32, 38 and the discs 90, 92 form a unitary structure. For ease of assembly the discs 90, 92 are provided with spring fingers 94, 96. The helix 44 is supported by three ceramic rods 46, Fig. 3, extending into holes in the horn members. The tube has internal pole-pieces 14, 20.
