Abstract
903,092. Travelling-wave tubes. TELEFUNKEN G.m.b.H. Oct. 27, 1958 [Oct. 26, 1957], No. 34251/58. Class 39 (1). A high-frequency line (waveguide 2, as shown), is coupled to the wave retarder of a travelling- wave tube by a #/4 coaxial line formed by a focusing tube 6 and a cupped member 3 (Fig. 2) having a plurality of circumferentially-extending slits 5 which absorb the unwanted H 11 mode. As shown, the travelling-wave tube has a glass envelope 1 and there are two cupped members 3 to one of which the helix (not shown) is coupled in known manner. A formula is given for calculating the diameter of the tube 6 for which the limit of wavelength of the H 11 wave-type has a minimum value. Annular projections 7 are provided to reduce the effective diameter of the tube 6 in the planes in which high-frequency short-circuits are provided. The cupped members 3 are also provided in known manner with longitudinal slits 4 to interrupt circumferential current paths. Specification 766,341 is referred to.
