Abstract

765,492. Typewriters &c. STANDARD REGISTER CO. Oct. 22, 1954, No. 30515/54. Class 100(4) A platen assembly has supports on a platen shaft for mounting different sized platens and strip feeding pin wheels which are adjustable radially relative to the axis of a shaft so that they remain in driving connection with the platen whatever its size. A platen shaft 20, Fig. 4, has a sleeve 22 on which are mounted collars 33, 34 which are adjustably longitudinally along the sleeves by levers engaging notches 45 therein. The platen is in two half sectors and is held between flanges 38 of the sleeves 33, 34 and against rotation by a key 42 and has at its ends rings 27 with teeth 28, Fig. 2. A pin wheel assembly has a body 56, Fig. 1, with teeth corresponding to the teeth 28 of the platen, through which pins 59 are projected by a cam arrangement by adjustment either at an operative or at an inoperative part of the body. The whole pin wheel body assembly is movable radially relative to the abutment collars 33, 34 since it has an axial opening of greater diameter and this is effected by a lever 96 pivoted on a stud 97 of a reactant member 92 fast on the abutment collars. Slots 89, 91, 93, in the member 92 house studs fast on part of the pin wheel body so that if a plunger 98 is moved into a different depression 99 the lever 96 engages the stud 88 causing the pin wheel body assembly to slide radially with respect to the collars 33, 34 since the member 92 is fast thereon so that its teeth remain engaged with the teeth 28 of the platen at least over a part of the circumference.
