Abstract

760,278. Starting and stopping direct injection engines. C.A.V., Ltd. June 29, 1955 [July 17, 1954], No. 20875/54. Addition to 697,616. Classes 7 (3) and 7 (5). In a modification of the pump regulating means of the parent Specification a lever n which normally contacts the face of an abutment piece b carried by a pump control rod a to limit the normal maximum fuel supply is movable along the axis of its pivot j to a position opposite a slot c in the abutment b to permit the rod a to move to an excess supply position for starting. The lever n is fixed to the slidable spindle j operated by a lever m and urged axially by a spring k to a position in which the lever n engages the face of the abutment b which is connected at one side to the rod a, guided at the other side by a guide bar d, and connected at its centre to a stem f attached to a suction governor diaphragm e. The spring k also urges the lever n against a stop o adjustable to set the normal maximum supply position. When the lever n is moved against the spring k to the starting position opposite slot c, the control rod moves beyond the normal maximum position until the face of the abutment b contacts a projection p on the lever n. After starting, the rod a, is withdrawn by the governor e and the spring k returns the lever n to its normal position. The spindle j is rotatable to cause the lever n to move the rod a to the cut-off position for stopping.
