Abstract
804,587. Starting fuel injection engines. C.A.V., Ltd. April 23, 1957 [May 2, 1956], No. 13506/56. Class 7(3) A cam k pivotally mounted on a slidable push piece j is normally tilted so that a finger n contacts the end of the injection pump control bar c to limit the normal maximum fuel supply, a lope p on the cam being arranged to contact a step at the end of a groove q, when the push piece j is pressed inwards, to turn the cam to a position in which the finger n engages in a recess o in the control bar, whereby on release of the push piece j the bar c is permitted to move to an excess supply position for starting. The cam k has flats s, r co-operating with the base of the slot in the member i in which it is mounted, the loading spring t of the push piece j being arranged to return the cam to its normal tilted position when the control bar c moves to the left after starting. The initial position of cam k is set by adjustment of a sleeve h screwed on to the body member a and locked in position by a sleeve v having a non-circular opening cooperating with a non-circular portion of the push piece j. The body member a is also locked in position by a bent-over finger f engaging a recess g in the pump body. In a modification, the sleeve h is situated inside the body part a and carries the groove q in which the lobe p slides, the locking sleeve v being locked to the body part a.
