Abstract

728,713. Governors. SOLA, G. Feb. 23, 1953 [Feb. 21, 1952], No. 4989/53. Class 57. [Also in Group XXVIII] The body of a fuel-injection pump (see Group XXVIII) is in two separable portions 1, 2, Fig. 1, the portion. 1 carrying the pump plungers and a governor 3 connected to the means for regulating the fuel delivery, while the portion 2 carries. the driving mechanism for the plungers. The governor comprises a piston 6 connected to the fuel-delivery control 4,and held by,-a spring 8 in maximum fuel-delivery position against a spring-loaded blade 10, this position being determined by the setting of a screw 13. For starting, a supplementary fuel supply is obtained by displacing the blade 10 to the left with a manually-operated mechanism comprising a hand lever- 24, a spindle 23 and a lever 17 biased to the position shown by a spring-loaded cup 21. Increases in engine speed reduce the pressure in a chamber 7 and hence displace the piston 6 to the right to reduce the fuel supply. To stop the engine, the hand lever 24 is used to displace the piston 6 to the right. In a modified construction; a supplementary fuel supply is obtained at slow speeds by providing a resilient member on the blade 10 so that the piston 6 can be displaced to the left by its spring 8 until the pressure in the chamber 7 is reduced.
