Abstract

The invention comprises compositions plasticized with compounds of the general formula [Cln(C6H5-n)(OCpH2p)m]sR in which n is 2-5, p is 2 or 3, s is 1 or 2 and R is an organic acid radical (polychlorphenyl-polyalkoxy alkanol esters of organic acids (see Class 2 (3)). In an example, 2-(2:3:6 trichlorophenoxy ethoxy)- and 2 - [2:3:6 trichlorophenoxy (ethoxy)2]-ethyl acetates are used with organo-tin stabilizer and calcium stearate and other additives in a polyvinyl chloride Geon 101 EP (Registered Trade Mark).ALSO:The invention comprises organic acid esters of polychlorophenoxypolyalkoxyalkanols, prepared by esterifying a polychlorophenoxypolyalkoxyalkanol with the acid. The preparation of 2-(3 : 6-dichlorophenoxyethoxy) ethyl acetate, di - (2 : 5 - dichlorophenoxyethoxy) ethyl adipate, 2 : 4 : 5 - trichlorophenoxyethoxyethanol ester of 2 : 4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, 2 - (2 : 3 : 6 - trichlorophenoxyethoxy) ethyl acetate and 2-(2 : 3 : 6 - trichlorophenoxyethoxy ethoxy) ethyl acetate by esterification is described. Polyvinyl chloride compositions are plastizized with these compounds. The alkanols used may be obtained by the condensation of poly-chlorbenzenes with polyalkylene glycols in presence of alkali. Products from diethylene, triethylene, polyethylene, and polypropylene glycols and mixtures thereof are specified, and polychlorbenzenes up to hexachloro; products include 2-(pentachlorophenoxyethoxy) ethanol. Acids specified include butyric, lauric, oleic, succinic, adipic, benzoic and phthalic, and substituted acids such as 2 : 4-dichlorophenoxy acetic.
