Abstract
The invention comprises quaternary tropine derivatives of the formula <FORM:0765821/IV(b)/1> where R1 is C1-C3 alkyl, R2 is C1-C4 alkyl or benzyl, R4 is methyl, ethyl or butyl, X is halide and R3 is phenyl, p-butoxyphenyl, 3 : 4-dimethoxyphenyl, o-carbethoxyphenyl, o-phenoxyphenyl, phenylmethylol, diphenylmethylol, phenylcyclohexylmethylol, phenylcyclohexyl - methyl, 9 - fluorenyl or 9 - xanthenyl. These are made by quaternating with alkyl halides the corresponding tertiary bases of Specification 764,227. The process is preferably carried out in a solvent such as acetone or an alcohol at room temperature or above. Examples show the preparation of 6-methoxytropine-bromomethylate benzilic, benzoic, veratric, mandelic, fluorene-9-carboxylic and xanthene-9-carboxylic esters, 6 - methoxytropine - bromobutylate benzoic, benzilic and veratric esters, 6-methoxy-pseudotropine bromomethylate benzilic, phenylcyclohexylacetic, phenylcyclohexylglycollic, p-butoxybenzoic, o - phenoxybenzoic, benzoic, veratric, fluorene - 9 - carboxylic and xanthene - 9 - carboxylic esters, N - butyl - 6-methoxy - nortropine bromomethylate veratric, benzilic, benzoic and veratric esters, N-benzyl-6-methoxy-nortropine bromomethylate benzilic ester, 6 - methoxytropine iodomethylate benzilic ester, 6 - methoxy - pseudotropine iodoisopropylate benzilic ester, 6-methoxytropine chloromethylate benzilic ester, 6-ethoxytropine bromomethylate o-phenoxybenzoic, p-butoxybenzoic, benzilic, benzoic, fluorene-9-carboxylic and xanthene-9-carboxylic esters, 6-ethoxytropine bromobutylate benzilic ester, 6-ethoxy-pseudotropine bromomethylate benzilic, phenylcyclohexylacetic, phenylcyclohexylglycollic, p-butoxybenzoic and xanthene-9-carboxylic esters, N - butyl - 6 - ethoxy - nortropine bromomethylate benzoic and benzilic esters and 6-isopropoxytropine bromomethylate benzilic ester.
