Abstract

757,205. Electric tests. MINNEAPOLISHONEYWELL REGULATOR CO. March 4, 1953 [May 31, 1952], No. 6003/53. Drawings to Specification. Class 37. The depth of fluid in a container is measured in known fashion by means of two condensers, each comprising a plurality of parallel plates or concentric tubes; the first condenser extends throughout the height of the container so that its capacitance is affected by the depth and dielectric constant of the fluid, and the second (compensating) condenser is totally immersed in the fluid so that its capacitance is affected by only the dielectric constant of the fluid; according to the invention the second condenser is joined to the lower end of the first to form a single physical unit. In the embodiments described the two condensers comprise a plurality of concentric tubes, the second condenser being fitted over the lower end of the first.
