Abstract
755,988. Winding yarn. MACKIE & SONS, Ltd., J. Feb. 9, 1955 [Feb, 25, 1954], No. 5601/54. Class 120 (2). Bast fibres &c. to be wound upon a package 12, or cop, are supplied from a creel 14 situated behind the operator and conveyed through a tube 28 over the operator's head, dust &c. from the yarn being carried along through the tube by virtue of the motion of the yarn, and either deposited into a container 41 at the ends of the tubes 28 or sucked away through an exhaust duct 64. The tube 28 and supporting hangers 30, 32, 34 are slotted to allow of entry of the yarn in " threading-up," the yarns emerging from the tube 28 at 52 and being led about a tensioning device 46 before being wound on to the package. Guide surfaces 40, 47 on the hangers assist in threading-up. The tube 28 may be provided with yarn guides in the form of rollers or fixed porcelain guides to prevent the yarns from contacting the sides of the tube. The creel, which is open towards the bottom to assist in the manipulation of the bobbins therein, is provided with a transparent shield 50 to keep dust from the operator, but allow him to keep the unwinding yarn under review. Specifications 563,613, 563,614 and 683,287 are referred to.
