Abstract
487,458. Winding yarns. REINERS, W., (trading as SCHLAFHORST & CO., W.). June 9, 1937, No. 16013. Convention date, June 12, 1936. Addition to 365,871 and 419,932. [Class 120 (ii)] The winding frame having means for conveying supply bobbins to the units of the frame as described in the parent Specifications is provided with a travelling knotter by which the ends from the supply bobbins are tied to those of the receiving spools, the loose ends of the supply bobbins being held in a ready position by the conveyer and being then transferred automatically or manually to the knotter to which the ends from the receiving spools are also automatically or manually transferred. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, the end from the receiving spool 42 is transferred to the travelling knotter 45 by hand, the end from the corresponding supply bobbin 5 being transferred to the knotter automatically by a double-armed lever 54 carrying two yarnengaging members 55, 56, the lever being actuated by a finger 9 on the conveyer frame 2 to take the end of the thread on the supply bobbin 5 from a slotted flap 53 in which it is held in the ready position, and present it to the knotter 45 which ties the end to the end of the yarn on the package 42. The knotter with an actuating motor 57 is carried by a carriage 46 supported by rollers 47, 48, 50 on rails 49, 51 and is moved therealong by a belt 52. In another form, Fig. 4, the knotter carriage 46 is suspended from rails 49 and the motor 57 drives a shaft 59 geared to shafts 62, 66a, &c., the shaft 66a driving a roller 70 at the end of a lever 65 actuated from a cam on the shaft 62 and the roller unwinding the yarn on the package 42 when it is moved into contact therewith so that the end can be taken by a suction tube 74 to the knotter 45. The suction tube 74 is actuated by a cam on the shaft 62 which also carries another cam actuating a second suction tube 79 having a funnel 80 which is moved over the top of the supply bobbin 5 and takes the end of the thread thereon towards the knotter 45 where a finger 81 pivoted to the tube 79 strikes a member on the carriage 46 and moves the end of the thread in the suction tube to the knotter. In a modification the roller 70 is journalled in the knotter carriage and the package 42 is swung over on to the roller for the thread thereon to be unwound, the end of the thread being drawn therefrom by a fixed suction tube having a lateral opening through which a rocker having an eye passes to take the thread from the suction tube to the knotter ; the rocker is actuated from the shaft 62. In another form in which the supply bobbins are provided with rings of yarn at the tips thereof, the suction tube 79 is replaced by a gripper which is actuated to pull the ring of yarn from the end of the bobbin and prevent it to the knotter.
