Abstract
753,524. Waveguides. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., HOPKINS, B. J., and, THOMASON, J. A. Nov. 10, 1954 [Nov. 18 1953], No. 32037/53. Class 40 (8). A cylindrical brass shutter 1 is rotatably mounted in a cavity in a brass block 2 having a rectangular hole 5 therein of the same crosssection as that of adjacent waveguides. When the shutter is rotated by, e.g., a solenoid relay, it may be moved to a position where a hole 8 in the shutter is aligned with the hole 5 or a position where the hole 5 is blocked. If the dimensions of a rectangular guide are a, b, then the diameter of the cavity should be at least b#2. To prevent loss of energy, #/4 channels 42 are situated at a distance round the cavity equal to #/4. The current for the relay may be that used for the priming potential of an associater TR system, and the relay may be so arranged that the shutter is closed when no current is supplied to the relay. A projection on the shutter may engage stops to ensure that the shutter is located in one of its two positions. The Provisional Specification describes also the use of an aluminium shutter.
