Abstract

752,693. Filtering gases. FISCHER, G. May 12, 1954 [May 16, 1953], No. 13912/54. Class 8(2). A gas filter of the flexible multi-tube type comprises a chamber sub-divided by a stationary plate 7, Fig. 1, housing sockets 6 to which the open lower ends of the tubes 2, only one of which is shown, are attached, a frame 13 through which the tubes pass and which is capable of vibrating in a plane normal to the tube axes, and a second similarly vibratable frame 5 to which the upper closed ends of the tubes 2 are secured ; the frames 13, 5 being connected by rods 14, 18 universally jointed, e.g. by a ball joint 17 intermediate their ends. The upper closed end of each tube 2 carries a tensioning rod engaging a notched bar 4 carried by the frame 5 and the latter is supported from a jacket 1 of circular or rectangular crosssection by springs 11 and is angularly vibrated by rotation of a central unbalanced member 10, Fig. 2, whereby cleaning of the tubes 2 is effected. With the joint 17 in the midway position shown the vibrations transmitted to the frame 13 have an amplitude equal to that of frame 5 but opposite in phase. The ratio of the amplitudes may be varied by shifting the ball joint 17 towards one or other of the frames 5, 13. In a modification the universal joints are seated in rectangular cross-sectioned elements rivetted to the corners of a rectangular filter housing, and in a further modification the joints are supported within the filter housing by an independent structure.
