Abstract

751,701. Impedance networks. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Sept. 24, 1954 [Oct. 2, 1953], No. 27666/54. Class 40 (8). A hybrid circuit comprises conductors 2, 4, a conductive post 14 at ground potential coupled to conductor 2, and coaxial lines 5, 6, 7, 8, the inner conductors of which are connected to the conductor 4 by impedance transformer sections 5c to 8c, and the outer conductors are connected to the conductor 2. Matching stubs 16 to 19 are provided, and their length may be adjusted by coupling them at different heights on the post 14. The distance between lines 5 and 8 is made #/ 2 greater in length at the highest operating frequency than the distance between the other lines. When the distance between the other lines is #/4, then a signal coupled to the line 5 is coupled out of lines 6 and 8 but not out of line 7. The circuit may be used as a power divider with any spacing between the lines. If a frequencymodulated carrier signal is coupled at 5 and a carrier signal modulated by a second frequency is coupled at 7, then the output at line 8 will comprise only the sideband signals while the output at line 6 will include the carrier frequency. An adjustable tuning disc 10 is provided to effectively change the spacing of the conductors 2, 4. Alternatively or in addition to the disc 10 a dielectric or conductive tuning vane 12 may be provided. The plate 4 may be supported by dielectric spacers, instead of the inner conductors of the lines.
