Abstract
1390809 Constant-resistance coupling circuits MARCONI CO Ltd 18 July 1973 [5 Aug 1972] 36665/72 Heading H1W A constant-resistance coupling circuit comprises a resonator 5 and two loops 14, 15 arranged in planes normal to the direction of propagation with both ends (1 and 2; 3 and 4) connected to the inner conductors of different co-axial terminals. The resonator is e.g. of length #/2 and may be of square or circular section. The angular separation of the loops may be other than 180 degrees, e.g. it may be 90 degrees. If the loops are correctly terminated, at the resonant frequency of the cavity, terminal 1 is isolated from terminal 3 and coupled exclusively to terminal 4. At frequencies remote from resonance, terminal 1 is increasingly coupled to terminal 2, and 3 to 4. The circuit may be used to combine a sound carrier with a vision carrier at output terminal 4. A sound carrier at the resonant frequency is applied to input 1 and a vision carrier at frequency offresonance to input 3. The resonator is tuned by conductive stubs (12, 13, Fig. 1, not shown). The curved lines indicate the rotating electric field set up in the cavity by the loops.
