Abstract

643,577. Aerial coupling arrangements. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. May 28, 1947, No. 14227. Convention date, June 28, 1946. [Classes 40 (v) and 40 (vii)] An antenna element comprises a radiator 10 and a short-circuited, concentric transmission line element with a high dielectric constant material 16 between its conductors, and which is connected in shunt across the input terminals of the radiator. The transmission line element consists of the core 12 and the inner surface of the radiating element 10 which are connected by a shorting plug 14. The radiator 10 may be a quarter wave element, or part of a balanced dipole or turnstile antenna. The dielectric 16 may be titanium dioxide. The admittance frequency characteristic of the transmission line element may be made equal to the reciprocal of that of the radiator 10, so that the input reactance is low over a broad range of frequencies.
