Abstract

751,393. Fluid-actuated valves. OHTA, T. March 17, 1954, No. 7768/54. Class 135. A safety valve comprises a cup-shaped closure member b sliding in a guide cylinder c and co-operating with a seat r. After the valve has cracked open, steam escaping to the exhaust port 12 enters an annular grooves in the seat and the space a between the member b and cylinder c and gives additional lift to the closure member. Steam also seeps through the clearance between the closure member and the guide cylinder and passes into a chamber i at the back of the closure member, and it exhausts from chamber i past an adjustable throttle k. On its way into chamber i, the seepage steam acts on a loose sleeve o and raises it quickly so that it contacts an outturned flange p on the upper end of the closure member and provides a further lifting impulse to the member b. Projections y depending from the cover of chamber i limit the lift of member b. The stem of the valve passes through the cover of chamber i and there carries the valve loading spring 3.
