Abstract
832,537. Valves controlled by auxiliary valves. S.E. LABORATORIES Ltd., [formerly MECHANICAL & ELECTRONIC PRODUCTS (LONDON) Ltd.]. Jan. 18, 1957, No. 1982/57. Class 135. A venting valve for connecting an outlet 37, either to an inlet 10 or to an exhaust 38 comprises a cup-shaped member 16 guiding an axially movable main valve member 60 that has a pair of parallel axially-spaced annular valve seating faces 63, 64 which co-operate with a pair of seats 65, 66, located on the sides of radial outlet ports 35 in the valve body. An axially movable pilot valve 72 arranged within the main valve member controls fluid flow from chambers 53, 57, connected via bleed passages 52 to the main inlet, to an outlet passage 70 through the main valve member leading to exhaust 38. When the pilot valve is closed under the action of spring 58, the inlet fluid pressure in the chambers 53, 57 and the action of spring 54 acting on the base of cup-shaped member 16 attached to the valve body by arms 18 keeps the main valve member closed to inlet and puts the outlet in communication with exhaust. When the pilot valve is opened the pressure in chambers 53, 57 falls to that of exhaust and the inlet pressure acting on the exposed faces of the main valve member opens the main valve member against the action of spring 54 to place the outlet in communication with the inlet and to close the exhaust as shown. The pilot valve is actuated by an armature 74 attached thereto and actuated by a solenoid 27, as described in Specification 825,363.
